TRAINING ACTIVITIES
During
this reporting period, PAP continued its activities aiming at building the
capacity of the participant CDAs, MISA personnel, and PAP staff, to better
perform their expected roles.
Also
PAP continued providing vocational training to the credit beneficiaries.
7
major training courses were tailored based on the identified training needs of
the target trainees; out of that, three training events were tailored to prepare
8 Giza CDAs for graduation. On January 21st 2002, PAP contacted the
Egyptian Small and Micro-enterprise Association (ESMA) in order to tailor a
training based on the situation and the capabilities of these CDAs. From 9th
through 11th of February 2002, ESMA conducted training needs
assessment for those 8 CDAs, and that is followed with a planning meeting for
training held on the 16th of the same month.
a) Strategic Planning
In
order to improve the planning skills of 8 participant CDAs that are to be
graduated from PAP through helping them develop their own Long Range Strategic
Plans (LRSPs), PAP contracted the Egyptian Small and Micro-enterprise
Association to tailor a training course that is to improve the planning skills
of these CDAs.
Training
Objective/s: Improve
the planning skills of 8 CDAs (Omraneia Gharbeia – Ard Allewa – Shiakh Rabaa
– Zenin – Ahali Embaba – Dahshour – Abo Ragwan – Madinat Al Omal).
The
Trainer: The Eyptian
Small and Micro-enterprise Association (ESMA).
Training
Target Group: 6
people from each CDA (Chairman, Treasurer, Field Officer, Cashier, Accountant,
and the volunteer), those 6 persons are supposed to be the key people managing
the credit fund at the CDA.
Training
Duration: The
8 CDAs were divided on to two groups of four, the firs group is formed of
Dahshour-Omraneia-Ahali Embaba-Abo Ragwan, and the second group is formed of
other four CDAs which are; Zenin-Ard Ellewa-Shiakha Rabaa – Madinat Al Omal.
The
training duration was 8 days, four days for each group, the first group training
workshop started 13th through 16th March, while the second
group workshop was on 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th
of April.
In
order to insure proper production came out of the strategic planning workshop,
other one day field follow-up took place for each group on 12th and
13th of June.
Training
Main Topics
The
main topics of the strategic planning workshop were:
1- Mission and Vision statement that included definition and importance of
strategic planning.
2- Main elements for strategic planning such as external environment for the
organization (opportunitie and threats), and the internal environment
(Strengths and weaknesses).
3- Strategic objectives and statement of strategic objectives.
4- Strategic directions for micro-credit programs.
5- Intermediate goals and its statement.
6- Final form of the strategic plan.

target trainees have become aware of the importance of strategic planning for
their organizations
2- 8 CDAs have developed realistic strategic plans.
b) Financial Modeling
Given
that some of the 8 mentioned CDAs have received amounts near to
LE
400,000, PAP gave attention to improve the financial planning skills of those
CDAs before graduating from PAP to ensure effective and efficient management of
the loan fund capital.
Also,
to provide guidance to those 8 CDAs before graduation, it was necessary that
each of 8 CDAs develop its own Long Range Financial Plan for next five years
(LRFP)

ultimate objectives were aimed out of this workshop:
1-Improve
the financial planning skills of 8 CDAs (Dahshour-Omraneia-Ahali Embaba-Abo
Ragwan-Zenin-Ard Ellewa-Shiakha Rabaa – Madinat Al Omal) before having
graduating from PAP to ensure effective and efficient management of the loan
fund capital.
1- 8 graduating CDAs will have guidance through developing their own
long-range
financial plans.

2- Valuation of the loan fund capital.
3- Characteristics of the loan product.
4- Cash flow.
5- Major expenditures of a credit program.
6- Calculation of defaults.
7- Calculation of the inflation rate.
8- Calculation of number of loans to be disbursed.

The
target trainees have become aware of the importance of financial planning for
the received loan fund capital, and for their organizations’ finance.-
Women
Empowerment
Meanwhile,
PAP during this reporting period, gave special attention to women empowerment,
and to improve the women position in the community to enable her have adequate
opportunity.
To
improve the women position in the community, PAP worked in two parallel directions;
First,
improve women awareness, knowledge, skills and attitude towards health, the
environment, and women basic rights.
Second,
is to improve women income through enabling her become aware and have access to
formal and informal landings.
To
work in these two directions, PAP cooperated with two professional
organizations, Center for Development and Population Activities (CEDPA) for
women awareness through “New Horizon” program and, Al-Mabadara Association
that invited three of PAP CDAs to participate in a training workshop for women
empowerment in the context of micro-credit.
The
new horizon program incorporated two sets of training, first training was about
gender and women in development, the second training had three rounds, each
round is to prepare 38 class facilitators deliver the new-horizon program
curriculum to about 800 women participants.
The
Trainer CEDPA
hired qualified trainers for each training round.

Target Group: 35
class facilitators working in 5 PAP participant communities (Dahshour,
El-Desemey, Abo-Ragwan, Omraneia Gharbeia and Abo Al nomros).

CDAs have become aware of gender and importance of gender equity in micro-credit
programs.
- English
Language and Computer Training
The Program staff, and MISA staff have
attended the normal training course
of English Language and Computer. The English courses have been held at
PAP premises, with two different teachers
according to the level of trainees. As far as the computer
training it has been realized mainly indoor by the IT manager. In Minia the
activity has been realized by “Al
Manara” a professional training center and was attended by PAP staff.
Effective
Report Writing
On
8th and 15th June, three PAP staff, the UNV, the program assistant and, Menia office director have
attended training at the British Council in order to improve their ability
writing reports effectively.
Beneficiary
Training and Assistance
Veterinary
services
on a regular basis to the animal husbandry projects in the rural areas. Among
these services are orientation programs about animal diseases and how to prevent
them, free vaccinations and artificial insemination.
An Artificial Insemination Center has been set up at Desamy with the
contribution of the Program and has been inaugurated in July 2001. In this field
of activity PAP has realized several field visits to model farm to stimulate the
drovers towards new techniques. The
beneficiaries of Desamy, El Saff, Mazgouna and Dashur CDA have visited Dina Farm
